MPO Ballet Festival 2025: Swan Lake & The Nutcracker Bring Classical Magic to DFP

December 4, 2025

December 2025 marks a major moment for classical arts in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is bringing back its long-awaited Ballet Festival at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC, featuring two of the world’s most beloved works: Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. This highly anticipated return is the MPO’s fourth Ballet Festival, following earlier editions in 2013, 2016, and 2018 — reinforcing KLCC as a key cultural destination in Southeast Asia.

Ballet Festival : Swan Lake DFP KLCC
(5–7 December 2025)

Few ballets in history carry the weight, mystique, and emotional depth of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. First premiered in 1877, it remains the crown jewel of ballet repertoire — a story of love, tragedy, and transformation that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

This December, Swan Lake returns to DFP with the full artistry of the National Classical Ballet of Moscow, guided by returning Russian maestro Stanislav Kochanovsky. With soaring strings, sweeping themes, and a deeply romantic score, this performance offers KL audiences an authentic European ballet experience right in the heart of KLCC.

Demand has already surged — two shows sold out quickly, prompting the addition of an extra matinee on Sunday, 7 December 2025.

Ballet Festival : The Nutcracker DFP KLCC
(12–13 December 2025)

A week later, Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS transforms into a world of festive magic.

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker — one of the most iconic Christmas ballets in history — arrives in Kuala Lumpur with its dreamlike winter scenes, enchanting melodies, and vibrant characters that have charmed audiences since its 1891 premiere.

The MPO’s 2025 production promises:

  • snowy fairytale visuals

  • world-class dancers from the National Classical Ballet of Moscow

  • the full symphonic colour of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra

  • a festive, imaginative atmosphere perfect for families, children, and adults

This performance isn’t just a concert — it’s an immersive Christmas story.
A moment where children experience wonder, families create memories, and adults reconnect with that rare feeling of childlike imagination.

A December Moment to Remember

For one December weekend, KL receives a touch of European winter.
Whether you bring your children, share the moment with someone special, or go alone to reconnect with your inner world — The Nutcracker offers a rare chance to experience the quiet magic of Christmas in the heart of KLCC.

It’s a holiday tradition reimagined for Malaysia:
snowy dreamscapes, timeless storytelling, and Tchaikovsky’s music unfolding live right in front of you.

Note: According to DFP’s concert hall policy, only children aged 8 and above may attend. This helps ensure the best experience for both the audience and the artists.
